CHARACTERS PLAYED: Madeline Williams
CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: The Disciple (Canon Name)
LEO (Code Name) - Bastet Leijon
CANON: Homestuck
CANON REFERENCE: MSPA ANCESTOR WIKI
AGE: 27
GENDER: Female
FACULTY POSITION: Creative Writing
APPEARANCE:
Bastet has a MASS of black hair that is almost never combed, despite Virgo's many attempts, and dark brown skin. OF COURSE of more note is her brown and black tiger striped ears and tail. Her claws are also pretty impressive if she has those out.
PERSONALITY:
Bastet is Nepeta's Ancestor in canon and her ectobiological parent in game and as such is similar to her in many ways. She is loyal to a fault, lively and happy, and is a competent huntress. She was once more violent than she is now which is a direct result of Cancer's teaching. Among this teaching of equality were pacificism and she only breaks it to save lives.
Before the disappearance of her quartet, she was a bright and lively individual. She was unafraid of what lay ahead as they traveled, even after her childhood. Her favorite activity was always reaching the next hill or the next town. Every day was a new adventure and it was all the better for having her friends at her side. Even when they were in trouble from highbloods at various times before their capture, Bastet bounced back quickest of all. Her ability to look on the bright side and take a lighter tone was invaluable in a group of somewhat serious individuals. In fact it could be, on occasion, somewhat grating because she insisted on taking the 'look on the bright side' thing a bit too far. Which is to say, Disciple almost entirely lacked the ability to read the atmosphere. She says the wrong thing at the wrong time quite often and is quick to assume.
She enjoyed writing almost obsessively, taking it upon herself to write down all of his sermons and often carried around her book of his teachings. She recorded nearly everything in fact, from the towns they visited to conversations their group had. She can be extremely talkative but is equally able to be a great listener. Catch her interest and she will sit there listening to you go on and on. She was very adept at making fires, skinning and preparing animals, and finding new plants for them to eat. She loves to be useful, going out of her way to figure out tiny ways she can help her friends or random people.
She could be a little defensive at times and was quick to uphold her honor and those of the rest of her little group of friends. Before becoming Leo or Disciple, she got into a few fights but that occasional temper or pride has calmed down. She was a bit sheepish about her habit of slipping into catpuns, since she considered them to be somewhat childish and she tried to curb them whenever she can.
There are other quirks such as her love of 33 but they are more when she is writing. She gets a little more high pitched when upset or excited.
She is slightly worried about her friends now, since they may have been caught or injured and it's with great reluctance that she accepts being separated from them. At this time, she and Cancer (VAGUES THIS UP) are not yet together, though she has a massive crush.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Aside from the physical mutations: ears, tail, and retractable claws, Bastet has super senses. She sees better than humans in dark, can hear a pin drop three rooms over and has increased agility and slight super speed. All in all, it makes her a vicious predator, just like the cats she resembles.
AU HISTORY:
astet was born with her physical mutation, given the last name of her parents, but quickly tossed into foster care. Mutation was very much a curse and her parents were gladly rid of her, though she never knew them and that is only what she is told. She was tossed from home to home, but her good nature and optimism kept her from taking things too harshly. At times, she buried herself in books, anything she could get her hands on and at others she would take off into the little patches of woods between subdivisions. Eventually, though, her mutations became more pronounced and she grew claws. At the point when she began hearing things outside her room and catching her claws on her fellow fostermates, it became easier for them to treat her less like a person and more like an animal. Eventually, she ran away, ending up in one of more untamed woods she found.
Her time in the wild was around 4 years, from the time she was ten to around her fourteenth birthday. She almost starved at first, until push came to shove and she pounced on her first squirrel. It was soon supplemented with a variety of leaves and berries. Though she had read enough books to recognize poisonous plants, much of what she ate was trial and error, spitting out or throwing up what didn't agree with her. Puberty was the first real thing that pushed her back to humanity, and even that was a very real fear of dying when she noticed the blood. She didn't trust humans after all of this and she was sure they felt the same way. It took a kind mutant in the town she had ventured into to coax her back to real civilization and they brought her to the Institute. There, she really developed her current appetite for knowledge and read through the library before long. Though she had missed much of her schooling, she caught up quickly and added book smarts to her street smarts. Her years as a student were mostly uneventful but for the friends she gathered. She had always been a loner in her foster homes but here she found a sense of acceptance amongst the 'freaks' and the 'outcasts'. She had found a safe haven.
By the time she was considered an adult, she had grown restless in her haven and found herself longing to see the world. Her friends encouraged her to go traveling, but it was actually a town close to home where she met the man who would change her life. A mutant, speaking to a crowd, without fear and preaching the peace and unity she had wanted all her life. She listened to him speak for hours and even followed him to the next place he spoke at. She met him--and his mother eventually and they excitedly exchanged their tales, the mutual oppression and the hopes for the future. In the end, she left the Institute behind to follow them. Her optimism came in full force and she honestly began to believe they could do this. They could make the world understand that things didn't have to be this way. They even saved another mutant from cruelty, helped him get past his anger and listen. They became known by their star signs, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Virgo. Still others called her Disciple for her unwavering faith. They ventured over continents and Bastet picked up a new appetite for languages. Her stumbling attempts at Mandarin and Japanese were encouraged and it was at a year long stop in Egypt that she picked up Arabic. The veil covered her ears and her tail was hidden and for the first time, she found herself being accepted by other humans, especially the women. They taught her to speak their language and to read and write, and while she's far from fluent, she knows more of this language than any of the others she picked up. Their travels took them everywhere and it was only a matter of time that their words were met with violence.
The group tried to stay together when they were met with a riot but they each scattered and it almost appeared that some were caught. Bastet ran and ran until she found someone who could take her back to the Institute. She hopes she can reunite with them and she had told them long ago that if they were ever separated they could find her here.
SAMPLE
1ST PERSON SAMPLE:
TEST DRIVE
THIRD PERSON SAMPLE:
Sometimes Leo climbed up on the roof and watched the road to the town. She knew the likelihood that any of them showing up so quickly after her arrival was small to nonexistent but she couldn't help hoping. She just wanted them to be okay and it would be easier to confirm seeing them with her own eyes. She almost lets herself feel that guilt, the one she felt when she was all alone again and lost in a wilderness she was unfamiliar with. She could have helped them. She could have--She didn't and she was safe and they would want that. They would want her to be safe.
When the guilty feelings start to creep up, that's her cue to leave the roof. It's ten feet to the ground, more than she can comfortably drop, but she dares it anyways. She lands, rolls, takes a leap over the nearest fence and dashes into the woods. There aren't responsibilities in the woods, just sounds and smells and she can be free. A mile in the woods she stops. Her breath comes in pants and she can't see the sky clearly beneath the leaves.
It's perfect out here and she remembers life before all the complication. Her hands drop to her sides and she breathes in the clean air and all the scents of the life around her. It calls to the primal side of her and to all the mutations that make her--but she turns back to the school. She has children to teach and help learn. She is a person with goals and a life--and there are books to read and people to speak and share with.
She has people she loved. She would wait for them here. She would wait forever.
